Why This Fee Exists

The City of Chicago requires a container permit fee for refuse containers. This fee is imposed by the city and applies to each serviced account and each container.

Recent Fee Increase

In January of 2026, the City of Chicago increased permit fees by 10%, originally established under a law effective April 1, 2009.
